LUNDGREN BRINGS HAPPY HOUR SHOWS TO TEATRO ZUCCONE
For three Wednesday nights in February, Duluth's infamous newspaper columnist and "very nice man" Paul Lundgren will take to the stage. Joined by three special guests, he'll host a series of performances called "The Paul Lundgren Happy Hour."
"It'll be sort of variety show, but with less variety," Lundgren says. "There will be comedy, music, poetry, wacky antics and good old-fashioned shenanigans."
Special guests for the performances will be:
Feb. 10 | Musician Rachael Kilgour
Feb. 17 | Actress Christa Schulz
Feb. 24 | Poet Ryan Vine
Each "Paul Lundgren Happy Hour" will be held at 6 p.m. at Teatro Zuccone in the Zeitgeist Arts Building, 222 E. Superior St., Duluth.
Over the past 13 years, Lundgren has entertained local readers through his column, "The Next Level," which appears monthly in the Transistor and online at paullundgren.com. He also blogs frequently on perfectduluthday.com. His first book, "The Spowl Ribbon" is scheduled for release in February by Whoppin Unlimited.
Lundgren is a fiscal year 2010 recipient of an artist support grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, which is made possible through an appropriation of the McKnight Foundation.
Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rachael Kilgour has shared the stage with the likes of Catie Curtis and the Indigo Girls. Her self-titled debut album, produced by Haley Bonar, was released in December 2008.
Actress Christa Schulz has performed in something like a bazillion plays in Duluth, including recent appearances in "The Three Musketeers," "The Jack Chick Plays: The Second Coming," "Sweeney Todd," and "The Book of Liz." She can also be found in the 2008 mockumentary film ".And on the 7th Day God Rocked" in the role of Suela Sommerset.
Ryan Vine is the winner of a 2005 Weldon Kees Award and the author of "Distant Engines," a collection of poems released in 2006 by Backwaters Press. His work has appeared in numerous journals, including The Sonora Review, Natural Bridge, The Writer's Almanac and Cortland Review. He has new poems forthcoming in The American Poetry Review.
