Human Rights Day

Today is International Human Rights Day. Raise your hand if you knew that, I am sure that a minimal amount of you raised your hand and I am laughing to think you would at your computer. Anyway, 61 years ago today was the birth of a document. This document is the universal declaration of human rights. This declaration was created by the United Nations. There are 30 articles to the declaration, a lot of them are common sense things like food, shelter and a safe environment. Article one starts us off with this: "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood." Remember that this was 61 years ago that this was said.

In my professional life, I try to follow Article 25.1. "Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control." That says a lot both in America and throughout the world. I am starting in my area, to make it better and give people those human rights.

The thing that amazes me is that this was written 61 years ago. Looking through this document it talks about a lot of things like civil rights and common rights that are ripped from us every day. Read up on your rights as a human and look and see if they are being followed anywhere.
