Christmas Time

Christmas week is here and I am excited. It is the most wonderful time of the year according to the song. The lights, the music and do not get me started on the food. Then of course there are the gifts. Little wrapped things under the tree, some of them purchased from the biggest fight of the season (Black Friday). People cannot wait to open the gifts on Christmas morning. Some gifts are received all year long. Gifts can be big or small and it is truly always the thought that counts. I think of people who give their 10% at church and maybe a little on World Service Sunday for those kids in Africa and Asia. Dr. Bob Powless said "Gifts can be money, time, a prayer or just a thought". It is so true what Dr. Powless said.

On Christmas Eve, CHUM will host the Noon Christmas Eve vigil. This will be at City Hall at 12 Noon. This vigil will remember the people that have died in 2009 that have been homeless. This year, Gloria Dei Church will be the church host for this event. I want to let you know about one of the people. I will use a fake name but the story is real. I first met Bob in the soup kitchen at Damiano, where he had a tough guy personality. I invited him to a game of Bingo that TPAC (Twin Ports Action Coalition) was hosting the following day. Bob came to the game and was talking to people, something that he did not do a lot at lunch we also saw smiles coming from Bob which was also new to us. After the game, Bob and I talked about different things and I understood where he came from and why he was the way he was. After that day, We would see one another and talk or at least say hi. When I heard he passed away I was very sad. Bob was one of the good guys who needed a friend. I will always remember my friend. On December 24th, I will be at City Hall for the vigil to remember my friend and all the others who have died in the past year.

I was really excited to be on Fox 21 over the weekend during the Food SHARE event. Check out SHARE at www.sharewi.org
