Rock The Block Summer Concert Series Review/Preview

The Rock The Block Summer Concert Series kicked off last Thursday the 25th of June, and I was able to drop in for a look and listen (and drink, but we will get to that in a bit).

Basically, the concert was literally what it was advertised as; the entire block, in this case the block between the Duluth Public Library and the Radisson Hotel, was shut down to traffic for the concert/party/cookout, with the band set up on a stage at the west end of the block, and everything east was filled with people.  The band Don't Panic performed a variety of songs, ranging from What I Like About You, by The Romantics, to I Wanna Rock And Roll All Night by KISS.  It was a true family event, with all ages present.

As the concert went on, consessions were being sold for very reasonable prices; Burgers and Beer was on sale for $2.50 each (I was pretty happy about the latter), and Hot Dogs were $1.50.  There were also a number of people dancing in the street to their favorite songs, so all in all it was a pretty fun environment to relax in and enjoy the weather (I had just gotten home from the beach that day, and the temperature was pushing 90 degrees; as I write this now, it is around 60 degrees and raining.  Gotta love Duluth...).

The next concert is scheduled for July 9, on Superior Street between 1st and 2nd Ave West.  Brandon Scott Sellner performs, and I expect it to be closes to the same genre of music, at least in the sense that it will be appropriate for all ages again.  I would recommend this as a family outing, should the weather be nice again, otherwise, you may find yourself wishing that the consessions were selling coffee and hot chocolate, rather than cold beer and soft drinks.
