Deckin' It DuSu-Style
Deck your halls with something different this year, and show your DuSu pride: Du the Wreath!
It's easy to create this eye-catching holiday adornment that says to your friends and neighbors:
"I live in Duluth-Superior, I love it, and I can operate a hot glue gun!"
In just a few steps, you can create your own DuSu wreath (or some variation on it).
Here's How To Du It:
(Scroll the pics above for illustrations of each step.)
1. Assemble the following items:
-Miscellaneous evergreen cuttings (We're surrounded by trees. Don't tell us you can't find any.)
-Craft wire (comes on a roll at any big box or craft store. It'll set you back about $2.)
-A couple of wire coathangers ("No wire hangers, ever!"? Wrong!)
-Some craft paint (cheap also, about a buck for a small bottle in any craft department) and a brush.
-Miscellaneous ribbon or decorations)
-Hot glue gun and a glue stick or two
2. Grab your coat hangers and untwist two of them. Bind or twist them together into one length. Bend the length of coathanger into some approximation of the DuSu wave. It doesn't have to be perfect. You think ours was? Hah!
3. Pile on the greenery! Fasten the craft wire to the wire frame you just made: twist the end of the craft wire around the top of the wave until it's secure. Take about five pieces of evergreen boughs. Stack them flat, with the ends of the boughs together, and lay them on the frame at the top of the wave (stem side pointing down the wave). Wrap craft wire around the bundle at the ends to secure them. Continue this process, laying bundles of boughs on top of each each other, overlapping enough to create a lofty wreath. Keep going alllll the way to the inner curl of the wave, then cut the wire and wrap it to secure the end. If you hose it up, you can always stick in extra boughs or cut pieces back with scissors.
4. Whip out your craft paint. Slather it on with the brush. Let dry. Easy.
5. Hot glue your ribbon, bows, fake bird's nests, hardened leftover french fries, or whatever you prefer, to the wreath, and voila!
You are SO DuSu.
