Christmas City of the North Parade!
Preview this: an epic parade of glimmer, glitz, and supreme holidayish-ness!
I remember, as a wee girl, slogging down Superior Street, swathed in long underwear beneath regular clothes, under a parka, wrapped in a sleeping bag, walking- somehow- upright, trying to get an optimal view of the sparkling floats advancing down the street. It was so cold that particular year that my parents and I popped in and out of the old Woolworths, trying to warm our bones between parade highlights.
It's back, and it's not to be missed! It's all dressed up in snow (artificial, perhaps) and mistletoe, and it's certain to be the gateway event to the holiday season: The Christmas City of the North Parade.
Forget lame parades with politicians chucking stale tootsie rolls from the passenger seats of borrowed convertibles, this event is set to feature nearly 70 groups including 20 bands, 9 dance groups, local royalty courts, and the jolly, rotund stocking-stuffer himself.
The parade route begins at the Northland’s NewsCenter Studios at Lake Ave. South and Railroad Street in Canal Park. It travels up Lake Ave to Superior Street and ends at 5th Ave. West. The spectacle starts at 6:15pm on November 20, and is accessible to people with disabilities.
Dress warm and bring the kiddies or your friends for the festive revelry!
*Bonus points if you dress as elves and post pics to the DuSu!
